Ciudadanía y exclusión: Ecuador y España frente al Espejo

Víctor Bretón, Francisco García, Antoni Jové, María José Vilalta (eds.): Ciudadanía y exclusión: Ecuador y España frente al espejo, Los Libros de la Catarata, Madrid, 2007, 303 pp. ISBN: 978-84-8319-303-7.

This work offers a collective reflection on the historical construction of the complementary notions of citizenship and exclusion. The look stands in the Andes's world (Republic of Ecuador) and in Europe (Spain) and amalgamates diverse angles, different disciplines and discontinuous times. In the current migratory flows, the implications of the Ecuador-Spain duality are useful for finding out how the theoretical universality of the citizenship dilutes in varied forms of exclusion inherent to the nature of the States of citizens. That is the reason of the book title and the explicit reference to the historical-spatial areas: Spain and Ecuador; but both placed in front from the other, reflecting itself mutually, images of citizens with some common points, and also projecting many divergences. A set of personal approaches that board different aspects of the past and the present use of a category, the citizenship, that's full of lights and shadows in both sides of the Atlantic.
